| Our
Mission Promote
Organ Donor Awareness
Through public service announcements,
charity events, speaking engagements and social gatherings,
the JFC Foundation will provide a presence to bring about
awareness of just how important the decision is to become
an organ donor and the profound benefit to society that
decision will have. In addition, the JFC Foundation will help
existing
organ donation organizations get their education more widespread
than has currently been achieved.
Promote
Care Provider Awareness
In many areas throughout
our country, the initial consultation with a grieving family
takes place by a medical care provider (nurse, doctor, etc.).
The JFC Foundation has learned that when a transplant specialist
(Life Gift, Southwest Transplant Alliance, etc.) has the
opportunity to consult with grieving families, they are successful
nearly 85% of the time. As such, it is the intent of the
JFC Foundation to help the care provider community better
understand that there are experts waiting in the wings to
have that critical, often difficult, conversation with the
deceased's grieving family members. It provides separation
of care providers from organ donation, which is often a troublesome
element to the grieving family members.
Promote Disease
Prevention via Nutritional Awarenes
The transplant list for
all solid organs contains over 90,000
people in the United States. To that end, nearly 2/3rds
on the list are awaiting kidney transplantation. Most of these
people awaiting a kidney transplant are suffering from
Type
II (Adult Onset) Diabetes, which is highly avoidable through
good nutrition and proper fitness. By bringing awareness
to Americans regarding the impact that their nutritional
intake has on their quality of life and well being, we
will work to bring about a new attitude in prevention thereby
working the transplant list from both ends.
